Update on Speaking Out Against Rape!
I just looked at the stats for my blog page and I was astounded at the initial data. The blog has been viewed in multiple countries!! I may never actually know how many women and men I was able to help by sharing my story, but I know it has helped me. The countries are USA, Portugal, France, & Poland. I am amazed at how far my story has traveled. Please feel free to share the link to the blog, so that other rape victims and survivors might be helped.
While there are a few details that I still held back, being able to share my story and speak out against rape has helped me to heal. I made a friend through the process that has encouraged me, supported me, and motivated me in both my healing process (they have a degree in counseling) and also in my healthier lifestyle #newmein2017. For those of you that are my friends, you know I value my friendships. I realized through this process that I had started to close myself off from my friends over the years. I had begun to withdraw from the person I was and the people that I loved. I had a hard time making decisions. I had a very hard time trusting anyone, especially men.
All of that is changing now. I am becoming more outgoing, more energetic, more lively, and yes, more vivacious. I am attempting now to rekindle those friendships from the past. To the friends that stood by me in the hours, days, weeks, months, and years since the rape, I want to thank you from the bottom of my heart. You are what kept me sane, You are what kept me from dealing with the horrific after-affects with drugs, alcohol, or suicide. Some, if not most, of you did not realize that you were helping me. But, you did, and I thank you from the bottom of my heart.
Now, for my update from yesterday's workout:
I was able to go back to the Semper Fidelis Memorial Trail at the National Marine Corps Museum and walk again. I realized yesterday that the pace I walk is punishing. I cut more time off my time in the first mile (down to 20 minutes). I walked a little over 2 miles and it was beautiful weather to walk. My ankle and knee did start hurting about halfway through the second lap, so I took the cut through on the trail instead of walking the entire long trail. My goal was two miles at least, and I managed to get that in. Today is colder here so I will not go to the trail today and give my body a break from the impact. After selling tickets for Lacrosse and baseball last night, I went home and worked out in the gym. You can see the workout in the picture below. I have found that I am starting to crave working out more and if I don't, then I feel sluggish.
