Love where you live and what you do!
I love where I live. I love the office staff, the maintenance staff,
and the tenants. I have made friends with some of my neighbors, and am
saddened to say that one of those, my BESTIE here, left yesterday to
move to Washington State. I will miss her laughter, our talks,
especially the ones this week, and her advice. I will miss her son and
his infectious enthusiasm for everything. And I will miss her husband
and how he was always willing to help out if Justin wasn't at home and I
needed something (rare but there were a few occasions).
I love that we have a pool that I can visit and swim laps in during the hot summer months. It is located in a courtyard surrounded by beautiful landscaping. I love that every month there is some type of activity for all the residents of the complex (Super Bowl party, happy hours, omelet days, Christmas parties, etc). But, what I love the most about Van Metre Kensington Place, are the two, yes I said two, workout rooms. Because there are two buildings, they put a room in each building. The smaller building, mine, has a smaller room and the larger building across the street has a larger room. The rooms have almost everything you could want, especially if you are just keeping fit or starting on that journey as I am.
I visit one or both rooms almost everyday, taking off one day a week as a break and if I need to take another one for injury I can do that. One of the friends that we have made is retired Army that works at Ft. Belvoir. He has kind of appointed himself my defacto personal trainer. I can ask him questions or tell him what I am doing and he will suggest adding things. Our schedules don't work out so that he can go with me, what with his work and wife and outside commitments, but it has really helped. I was getting advice and support from another friend, but that is in the air right now due to unforeseen circumstances. I do, however, have a huge network of friends that support and encouragement via social media and that has helped. Their words of encouragement keep me motivated and keep me going to workout even on days when I really don't want to go.
Being able to live in a place that has all these amenities makes me a very lucky girl. I am doing this journey for myself....but to also show those that keep trying to shove me down, to those that keep saying things about me that are designed to hurt me and doubt my self-worth, to those strangers that eye me with disgust and derision in their eyes, that I CAN and WILL do this. They are my intrinsic motivation. They are what keep me going. Because I know I can do this. I know I have goals and I am reaching them. I know that I will be a better person. I know that my inner goddess wants to be let out. I know that I DESERVE TO BE HAPPY! And I am. I am getting happier and healthier and more energetic with each workout. I am slowly becoming the vivacious girl I used to be. I am becoming the adventurous soul I used to have, the girl that took chances and had fun and loved everyone. That is me and I am reacquainting my self with her.
I LOVE KENSINGTON PLACE!!! They have started me on this journey by providing me with the tools I needed.
