YA Books: When Dimple Met Rishi and Learning to Swear in America

Image
Another GREAT book I have read is When Dimple Met Rishi by Sandhya Menon 🐢🐢🐢🐢🐢   Menon's YA novel about becoming a young adult while following your dreams and passions and doing all this while dealing with your parent's Indian culture is amazing! She welcomes the reader into the lives of Dimple and Rishi, introduces us to their families, and gives us some insight into the culture of being Indian in America. While Dimple's mother wants her to focus on her beauty and looks in order to snag herself an Indian Husband, Dimple wants nothing more than to follow her dreams and become an amazing coder. She has been accepted at Stanford and wants to attend Insomnia Con in San Francisco, a summer program that allows participants to submerse themselves into coding in order to win the competition at the end and possibly meet Dimple's coding idol. Enter Rishi, he is very much the oldest son in his Indian family...he agrees and supports the culture expectations, including arr...

Workout Results and New Books to Read!

Image
My results are not as great as I would like them to be but they are far better than what I was expecting, considering I have not been in the gym but one time since June....(think swimming in the pool all summer instead of sweating in the gym). I do have to keep reminding myself that it is for the better me that I can be.  Now, on to my other favorite subject to talk about....BOOKS!!  There are so many great books that I have read lately I have several to share with you.  First Up:  Illuminae by Amie Kaufman and Jay Kristoff.   🐢🐢🐢🐢🐢(I give this 5 Turtles) This is the first book in the Illuminae Files.  I have to admit I had been avoiding this book for awhile because I typically do not like Sci-Fi books.  Funny, that I love sci-fi movies but not the books.  However, I listened to my co-worker and several students and started reading it.  Boy am I glad I did.  This book is phenomenal!! The authors wrote it in a dossie...

The Disappearing Librarian is BACK in the Gym!!

That's right…I am back in the gym. Today I decided I had to get back in the gym. I haven't gained any of my weight back, but I had slowed down on losing.  Total so far….110lbs since February 2017. I want to lose between 85-100 more pounds. To do that I have to be back in the gym and working out….even as much as I hate cardio. I also have a friend that has said they would be willing to come to my fitness center and look at my workouts and what equipment I use and have available to use and then show me how to maximize my workouts….without having to pay a personal trainer….I think that is awesome sauce!! People have been asking me lately how I have managed to lose that much weight and keep it off. So I shared how I have done it…without any named diet or buying expensive diet foods…although buying groceries for a healthier lifestyle is more expensive….you end up eating less so it goes farther. 1. I cut out the soda when I first started. I used frozen no sugar added fruit and pu...

Fitness is an Uphill Battle...BUT one YOU CAN WIN!!

The New Year....we all look forward to it, most of us to spend the night before out with friends, partying and counting down the last few seconds of the year.  Quite a few of us make New Years Resolutions to be healthier, fitter, and happier.  And businesses exploit that desire and rack in tons of money in January.  But now it is March....and while the fitness clubs and gyms are packed in January and February, and the fitness companies are making money hand over fist...all of that has settled down. What I have learned is that you have to want to really do it for yourself. Not because it is New Years and you need a resolution. Not because all your friends are doing it......but keep those friends in mind to be your workout buddy.  Do it because you want to be healthier. Do it because you want to be fitter. Do it for YOURSELF!! If you have kids, then do it because you want to be around a long time for them. So many of you have reached out, some on a daily basis, to ...

2019--Courage, Change, Domination

2019. Another new year is upon us. Some will make the standard resolutions to lose weight, get in shape, quit smoking, quit drinking, make more money, etc. I want to focus on the first two; losing weight and getting in shape. Since February 2017, I have completely reinvented myself, or recovered myself.  I have lost 100 lbs so far, dropped from a size 32W (plus size) to a 22W, and I feel incredible. Was it hard? Hell yes! Did I want to quit somedays? Hell yes!  But I didn't. I had outside motivation. You. You are my motivation. My friends and family. You encouraged me. Some of you even called me out when I slacked off. You even told me that I am a motivation for you. So today, I am beginning to lead this blog into a new direction.  It will be more for posting encouragement, recipes, successes of all of us, men and women. We can share exercise and workout ideas and techniques. Motivate each other.  If I can do this, YOU CAN DO THIS TOO!!  Let's make #2019co...
