Fitness is an Uphill Battle...BUT one YOU CAN WIN!!
The New Year....we all look forward to it, most of us to spend the night before out with friends, partying and counting down the last few seconds of the year. Quite a few of us make New Years Resolutions to be healthier, fitter, and happier. And businesses exploit that desire and rack in tons of money in January. But now it is March....and while the fitness clubs and gyms are packed in January and February, and the fitness companies are making money hand over fist...all of that has settled down.
What I have learned is that you have to want to really do it for yourself. Not because it is New Years and you need a resolution. Not because all your friends are doing it......but keep those friends in mind to be your workout buddy. Do it because you want to be healthier. Do it because you want to be fitter. Do it for YOURSELF!! If you have kids, then do it because you want to be around a long time for them.
So many of you have reached out, some on a daily basis, to tell me that I inspire YOU. I don't do it for that, but I am glad that you have inspiration. You all inspire me. I have my goal firmly planted in my head now. and I am halfway there. I have dug deep and found a well of strength I never knew I had. For so many years, through everything, I always said "What doesn't kill us makes us stronger" and I would ask "What in the world do I need to be that strong for? Well, it was for this. I need to be strong for the days I have at work that are exhausting and all I want is to go home and get fast food and sit on the couch. Now I have the strength to stop by the gym first.
How Do I start?
1----Simply put on your shoes, grab your music and headphones, and go walk....that is what I did...for two weeks, that is all I did exercise wise. Then head to your local gym...Planet Fitness is my place of choice, but any will do and all are running some kind of special right now.
2---Keep a fitness journal. You can do this with an app on your phone....there are plenty. If you want to spend the money, I would suggest purchasing the Josh Hopkins fitness app.....he breaks down the workouts by muscle area, posts motivational videos, has meal plans, and there is a section to take your progress photos.
3---Give up the soda and sweet tea and Starbucks coffee....I know, the coffee and sweet tea were tough for me.....drink lots of water. I have a large Yeti style cup and I fill it with ice and frozen fruit and just refill the water all day.
I will share more later but this is a good start. And please, let me know how you are doing...I am here for you.
