STRESSED!!

Now I know what you are thinking, how come you are stressed and is it really as bad as your title makes it sound.  Yes and no.  Cryptic, huh?  Well, let me explain.  I am currently taking two grad school classes, teaching 3 blocks of ELA/SS a day, trying to integrate all the "new" processes our principal wants us to integrate, and still have some small smidgen of a social life--or at least let my husband know he is still married.  Seriously, I am starting to get things into some semblence of order.

The past two weeks, I have been working on projects for both classes and sometimes I find myself getting things for each class mixed up.  BUT, it is coming together.  If nothing else, I see that I am becoming more organized and find myself using some of the things I have learned through our readings or mentioned in classes in my own class at school.  One of my classmates had mentioned Glogster and another one mentioned Prezi.  Last night I made a glogster poster about myself to show to the students I teach.  My plans are to use glogster in the classroom and the students were amazed at how simple it was to use.

The assigned readings are still the white elephant in the room; or at least to me they are.  I am reading every chance I get, but I am still behind.  Part of this is due to the fact that I did not get the assigned books for my LIB 5070 and LIB 5010 classes until two or three weeks into the semester.  I had ordered them from the bookstore and they came one at a time.  The final book I had to "rent" in order to get it.  The company lost the bookstore's order and had to resend it and I needed it.  Thankfully I am only 1 class period behind now.  Looks like I will be reading lots this weekend.

After class last night, I got to thinking about how I could encourage collaboration between myself and Mr. Branch, our media specialist.  He has been out of town for a wedding, but I knew he would be returning today.  I also wanted to include our new Instructional Technology specialist, Ms. Mitchell.  I spoke to Ms. Mitchell today and told her about the role play scenario we did in class last night.  She was really excited that a teacher was approaching her for collaboration.  We decided to address the issue of our students checking out books but not finishing them.  We decided to have the students do a video-taped book review about a book they have checked out of the media center and read completely.  We are not sure if they will do one every 9 weeks or more than that.  She suggested we have QR codes for the book review put into the back of the chosen book.  This way all students in the school can scan the book in the library, watch the review, and then decide if they would like to check it out to read.  I think this is a GREAT idea!! I also plan on linking the videos to our classroom website so their parents can see them as well.
