STRESSED!!

Now I know what you are thinking, how come you are stressed and is it really as bad as your title makes it sound.  Yes and no.  Cryptic, huh?  Well, let me explain.  I am currently taking two grad school classes, teaching 3 blocks of ELA/SS a day, trying to integrate all the "new" processes our principal wants us to integrate, and still have some small smidgen of a social life--or at least let my husband know he is still married.  Seriously, I am starting to get things into some semblence of order.  The past two weeks, I have been working on projects for both classes and sometimes I find myself getting things for each class mixed up.  BUT, it is coming together.  If nothing else, I see that I am becoming more organized and find myself using some of the things I have learned through our readings or mentioned in classes in my own class at school.  One of my classmates had mentioned Glogster and another one mentioned Prezi.  Last night I ...

Back to School (for kids and me)

Well, day 2 of 180 days is complete.  That's right, here in Robeson County we started back to school on August 28, 2012.  According to the state law, any school that is not a year round school cannot go back to school BEFORE August 25 nor AFTER June 10.  I am truly excited about this year.  We are using the new Common Core and that means we get to TEACH again.  Instead of just Reading, we are teaching grammar-spelling-vocabulary.  We also get to do more of a project based learning. That means that the students will be collaborating together to complete final products from the lessons.  I will be using themed units for teaching. Today we had a faculty meeting after school and had the wonderful opportunity to train on "Interactive Notebooks".  They are taking the nation by storm and the data collected so far shows nothing but an increase in learning.  The students "own" their work and the responsibility falls on them.  It creates a portf...

Education and Job Interviews, Oh MY!!!!

With summer vacation upon me, I find myself wondering about things I normally would not.  For example, the other day I was at Burger King and it was during the time they take applications and do interviews.  It amazes me the state of dress someone thinks is appropriate for trying to obtain a job.  Now I know it is only Burger King, but if you don't care what you look like when trying to get them to hire you, what makes them think you will care about anything once you start working there.  Cut off jeans with holes in them, a tank top and flip flops is NOT appropriate dress for an interview.  On the other hand I was impressed with the manager doing the interviewing as he told them what they needed to do next time in order to impress him into hiring them. Maybe I should start my own business and go into the schools and teach high school juniors and seniors how to interview for a job.  It seems to me that no one is teaching them this information now.  Ex...
