Education and Job Interviews, Oh MY!!!!

With summer vacation upon me, I find myself wondering about things I normally would not.  For example, the other day I was at Burger King and it was during the time they take applications and do interviews.  It amazes me the state of dress someone thinks is appropriate for trying to obtain a job.  Now I know it is only Burger King, but if you don't care what you look like when trying to get them to hire you, what makes them think you will care about anything once you start working there.  Cut off jeans with holes in them, a tank top and flip flops is NOT appropriate dress for an interview.  On the other hand I was impressed with the manager doing the interviewing as he told them what they needed to do next time in order to impress him into hiring them.

Maybe I should start my own business and go into the schools and teach high school juniors and seniors how to interview for a job.  It seems to me that no one is teaching them this information now.  Except those taking business classes.  But it isn't high school students alone.  Some of the ones waiting were older than that.

Another thought went through my head yesterday.  AFter four years the NC legislature finally realized that teachers and state employee's HAVE to have a raise.  At least they are starting to hear that.  Their answer was a 1.2% raise, which for me works out to be $31 a month.  That doesn't even cover a tank of gas for me to get back and forth to my school.  It really bothers me the way our politicians are treating public education in this state.  I know it is happening elsewhere as well.  How can you whine about teacher retention and the level of education for our students and then continue to gut funding.  Teachers are NOT rich, you made sure of that, and you expect us to foot the bill for your dumb *** mentality.  No wonder NC ranks 49th and the US is not at the top.  If you would quite cutting everything and actually care about education, like other countries do, then we CAN and WILL be at the top again.

The United States has quality teachers.  As in any job there are a few bad seeds, but that happens.  Quite blaming things on teachers, make parents more accountable, and give us the funding we need.
